Your life path

Being yourself?

We think we are ourselves, but that is only true to a very limited extent. The ‘I’ consciousness is a very high, cosmically vibrating consciousness. We probably do not recognise ourselves in it. Nor do we need to, because at this moment our earthly life is not yet ready for that. We are here to learn our lesson in duality. If that were not helpful for us, we would not be here. In that sense, embrace your life. Life guides you along the path that is most effective for you. Do not view your life as something you have created yourself, but as a life path created for you.

“What is my soul learning?” is a good question in itself. The point is simply that you probably cannot discover that properly. Nor do you need to, because you yourself are your own lesson. You are the lesson for the soul. It is not somewhere else. So if you teach yourself to stand in your life with equanimity, in peace, in silence, with love or whatever word resonates with you, and face all the difficulties and problems that arise, you are always engaged with your life’s path.

It is as difficult as you experience it. That is not because you are not learning your lesson properly, but because it really is that difficult. Trust that you are in the process of learning your lesson. If you open yourself up to inner observation in the process, you will become more receptive to impulses from your soul and guides. Don’t expect miracles. If you have a problem with something about yourself now, you will probably still have it in 10 or 20 years’ time. Life lessons are programmes that usually span several lifetimes. You don’t learn a life lesson in a year. If you did, it wouldn’t have been a life lesson. Or perhaps you don’t realise you’re still dealing with it. That’s possible too.

Growth is a slow process

Because so many new high vibrations are entering the Earth and within ourselves, you’re probably finding it hard to get a firm grip on things. That’s just part of the times we live in. We’re being detached from so many things. Going with the flow and trusting, observing from within and accepting a great deal, is important for you to be able to follow your own path.

The purpose of your life is not to know everything that is happening around you and to have opinions about it all, but to learn your own life lesson and to follow the path that is meant for you. You will follow that path anyway. You cannot stray from it. You can make it a little easier or a little harder for yourself.

Sometimes you make it a little easier for yourself by doing things that don’t quite fit with your usual inclinations, such as meditating and bringing calm into your system by grounding yourself. So it is a process of slowly steering yourself in a different direction. That’s only possible if your whole system goes along with it. If you try to go too fast or push inner resistance aside, it will come back twice as hard and is likely to overwhelm you.

You can only gradually integrate helpful beliefs into your system as well. Inner growth is much like that of a plant: it takes time. It cannot be rushed. There are, however, many helpful options available these days: spiritual literature and guidance, therapies, workshops, nature and nature experiences in all sorts of areas – you name it. Make use of them, as this makes it easier and lighter for your system.

One path

But inner perception remains the most important thing. You are all-one and one-all. You are never alone; everything is connected to everything else. Nor is your own life path merely your own life path, but part of humanity’s life path. Just as the paths of others are also part of humanity’s path.

For some, the path is so arduous, or they have grown to such a point, or are still so young, that they are perceived as a burden to the rest. Others can transform their own life path in such a way that they can walk their own path lightly and/or have the space to make the paths of others lighter too.

Together, we all carry the whole. We all carry everything together. That is an important lesson my guides have taught me. I also find these two lessons from another guide helpful: “Never point a finger” and also: “Everything that happens in your world is unimportant”.

Life lessons

Our lesson is to approach everything with equanimity, peace and love. And we have our drives and motivations for doing or not doing things; these, too, form part of our lesson. We attract a certain kind of life. It is probably not the life of our dreams. There is a reason for that. That is our lesson. The outcome could be anything. This is where the challenge lies, and this is where much growth lies. Just go for it. And we have emotions and thoughts that we know aren’t very positive; those, too, are our lesson. Dealing with them and learning to transform them into compassion, humour and understanding is also important spiritual work. Humour, incidentally, is an important spiritual quality – friendly humour that brings a smile to people’s faces. Being able to start afresh every day, to approach each day with a fresh perspective, to see those closest to you in a new light every day: that too is a long journey of learning and one that yields much spiritually.

The monologue

Observing inwardly, observing yourself, and engaging in dialogue with yourself. In the Middle Ages, the latter was called the soliloquium, the monologue. Keeping a small diary about your own inner self can help.

Meditation and inner growth

The path of inner growth is one of equanimity in all things. That is why meditation does not always ‘help’ someone to a greater reality and a greater love. Perhaps someone is not even open to that. In that case, you can learn all sorts of things through meditation, but the person does not grow inwardly. There are people who start meditating and begin to grow inwardly as if by themselves. In that case, their inner self is ready for it.

Inner growth always broadens consciousness and involves growing in love. You must delve into yourself as a loving being, in which love for yourself, for your own situation and for who you are, must take an important place. For love is love; it knows no bounds. ‘I love you’ is an attitude and an expression of love that you discuss with yourself.

One with the ultimate reality

Peace with yourself and your own life, being content. With this attitude and experience, you come closest to the ultimate reality. That also enables you to be equanimous. Experiencing gratitude and tranquillity are other expressions of being in alignment with your core being.

Have no expectations

I recall Mansukh Patel’s advice: “Have no expectations.”

Ramamura once said: “Life is full of images.” There are so many images; we almost live from image to image. Much is measured, judged, weighed and done based on this.

My guides once advised me to stop seeing myself as a human being. The word ‘human’ carries a great many images. They advised me to see myself as a being temporarily residing on Earth. That clears up some of the cluttered images we’ve been saddled with. It’s not such a crazy idea after all.

Our society is drowning in fantasy. We make rules or build something and then call it reality. That has less to do with reality than your own inner world. Do you realise that?

“Have no expectations” can be a thought that helps you create some space in your consciousness when things feel a bit stifling and scary again.

Meditation is also about: stopping having expectations, stopping having images. Daring to let it be empty.

Silence is a quality that supports and endures. Much can be processed without saying a word about it.
